The Worst Time to Drive for Memorial Day . . . Is Probably the Time You Want to Hit the Road
One of the few POSITIVES from the pandemic was having way fewer cars on the road. Those days are over. If you’re planning to take a trip for Memorial Day weekend, brace yourself for busy airports and roads.
Triple-A says that this Memorial Day weekend, 42.3 million Americans are expected travel at least 50 miles. That’s up 7% from last year.
3.4 million people are expected to fly, which is up 11% from last year . . . and Triple-A says, “THIS Memorial Day could be the busiest at airports since 2005.”
If you’re DRIVING, they also released the best times to hit the road. Naturally, the busiest times are when YOU would also like to go.
On Thursday and Friday, the BEST times to travel by car are before noon . . . while the times to avoid are between 3:00 and 6:00 P.M.
Traffic should be lighter on Saturday and Sunday . . . but Monday will also be crazy. The worst time is mid-day Monday . . . while the best time to be on the roads is early morning, before 10:00 A.M.
Gas prices are way down compared to last year . . . so more people will be traveling than in 2022. But Triple-A says that the TOTAL number of travelers is expected to fall short of Memorial Day 2019, pre-pandemic.
