If you’ve been trying to eat better recently, or want to start, this is for you.  It’s a list of four common “health foods” that dieticians and nutritionists say aren’t always as healthy as you think . . .

1.  Granola bars.  It’s true that there are granola bars with whole grains, nuts, and dried fruits.  But even more contain high amounts of sugar, refined grains, hydrogenated oils, and artificial flavorings and colors.

2.  Flavored yogurt.  Yogurt can be a high-protein, low-calorie option.  But the yogurt section at the grocery store is filled with flavored yogurts that are loaded with sugar, artificial sweeteners, and sometimes even CANDY.

3.  Juices.  Store-bought fruit juice usually contains extra sugar and other additives.  It’s better to just eat a piece of fruit.

4.  Organic snack foods.  We see the “organic” stamp on something so we assume it’s healthier.  But cookies, chips, and other snacks labeled “organic” often have just as much sugar, unhealthy fats, and calories as non-organic versions.
