Good News: Resilient Trees, Great Teachers, and “Rosie the Riveter”

Here are a few more Good News stories making the rounds . . .

1.  The oldest living woman from the “Rosie the Riveter” days just turned 109 on Monday.  Her name is Hattie Pruitt.  She’s originally from Mississippi, but she’s lived in Berkeley, California since the 1930s.

She was a shipyard welder during World War Two.  Her son says they liked her because “her welding was meticulous.”  And she was small, so she could fit into tight spaces.

She says her secret to living so long is eating fruits and vegetables every day, and also kindness.  Quote, “You don’t get nowhere being nasty to people.”

2.  Maui’s famous 151-year-old banyan tree is bouncing back.  Half its branches were destroyed by the terrible wildfire in Lahaina last year and had to be removed.  But the ones that survived are thriving again.

3.  A kid named Chayce McCoy just graduated high school in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  And a video of him thanking his favorite teacher is going viral.  (Here’s the video.)

Her name is Renee Sigmon.  She made a big impact on him his junior year, so he surprised her with a tattoo he got of the note she wrote him for graduation.  It says, “Don’t let anyone dull your sparkle!  Always live your truth and continue to fight for what you believe.”
