Good News: Old Pandas, Lost Wedding Rings, and Free Vacations

Here are a few more Good News stories making the rounds . . .

1.  A 19-year-old panda named Ying Ying is a new mom after giving birth to twins at a zoo in Hong Kong yesterday . . . a boy and a girl.  She’s the oldest panda on record to become a first-time mom.

2.  A wedding ring lost in 1963 just turned up 61 years later.  A guy in Kentucky named Glenn Gregory lost it near a tree on his farm that he planted with his wife Barbara right after they got married.  They looked and looked, but never found it.

Sadly, Glenn passed away in December.  Barbara had him buried under that same tree, and finally just got around to adding the headstone this month.  And while workers were digging a trench for it, they found the ring.  (Here’s a video.)

3.  How clever is this?  A bunch of people in London raised over $4,000 to send a 63-year-old street cleaner on a vacation.  His name is Paul Spiers.  He’d only been out of the U.K. once in his life, and wanted to take a trip to Portugal.

It turned out he couldn’t take the money though, because city workers aren’t allowed to accept monetary gifts.  So a travel website stepped in to help.

A company called On the Beach decided to hold a contest with a $4,000 trip to Portugal as the grand prize.

These were the rules to enter:  You had to be between the ages of 62 and 64 . . . had to be loved by your community . . . had to be a street cleaner in London . . . and had to have the last name “Spiers”.

That got around the red tape, and his company okayed it.  They also matched the original amount people donated.  It’s being donated to a cancer charity.
