Covid Chaos: The Latest Covid Shortage Is . . . Garden Gnomes?

Here’s a fresh round-up of Covid insanity . . .

1.  This might be the weirdest product shortage of this whole era.  There’s a shortage of GARDEN GNOMES right now because of supply chain issues caused by the pandemic . . . and also shipments getting delayed by that ship that blocked the Suez Canal.

2.  A guy named Dr. Snape led a Covid vaccine study at the University of Oxford in the U.K. . . . and everyone’s making the connection between him and Professor Snape from “Harry Potter”.

The university tweeted, quote, “Our Snape is not a Dark Arts professor.  He mostly works in pediatrics and vaccinology . . . he’s also a lot friendlier.”

3.  A member of parliament in Canada was caught totally naked during a Zoom meeting on Wednesday.  He said, quote, “My video was accidentally turned on as I was changing . . . after going for a jog” and he apologized.

4.  Budweiser is the latest brand to give free stuff to people for getting vaccinated.  If you upload a selfie with your vaccination sticker or card to ABeerOnBud.com, they’ll send you a $5 virtual debit card you can use to buy beer.  Or anything else, I guess.

5.  Miller Lite isn’t giving out free beer if you get vaccinated . . . but they did make a line of shirts with a sleeve missing you can wear to get your shot.  The shirts say “Almost Miller Time” and cost $10, with the proceeds going to the U.S. Bartenders’ Guild.

6.  Some events are too big to get canceled even with a pandemic.  Like a festival in India where people get together every year to THROW COW DUNG to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

Thousands of people gathered for the event on Wednesday . . . right in the middle of Covid’s second wave in the country. (Or is it the third wave now? I’m losing track of the fear-mongering.)

7.  A 60-year-old guy in Norway who’s big on conspiracy theories hosted two Covid denier events last month . . . and he just passed away from Covid.  At least 12 other people at his events also caught the virus.

8.  Here are the updated stats on vaccinations and Covid cases as of last night . . .

Covid vaccinations in the U.S.:  125.8 million people have received at least one dose, or 37.9% of the population.  78.4 million people, or 23.6%, are fully vaccinated.

New daily cases in the U.S.:  74,479, with 895 new deaths.  That brings the total to 32.2 million cases, with more than 578,000 deaths . . . and more than 24.7 million who’ve now recovered.

Total cases worldwide:  139.6 million . . . with more than 2.9 million deaths . . . and more than 118.7 million people who’ve beaten the virus globally.
