After last night’s Super Bowl, we ventured out into the Internet in search of some trivia and interesting facts on Super Bowl 54.  Here’s what we came up with:

1.  Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid finally got his first Super Bowl win, and deuces were wild!  It was his 222nd career win as a head coach, and it happened on 02-02-2020.  Reid had previously been the winningest coach in NFL history WITHOUT a championship.

2.  San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan is not exactly known as a Super Bowl FINISHER.  There are three teams in Super Bowl history to lose a 10-point fourth quarter lead.  Kyle called the offensive plays for two of them.  Again, Kyle was the offensive coordinator for the Falcons when they coughed up a 28-3 lead to the New England Patriots three years ago.

And after the 10-minute mark in the fourth quarter, Shanahan’s Super Bowl teams were outscored a combined 46-0.  That includes the overtime of Super Bowl 51.

3.  Patrick Mahomes turned 24 back in September, and now he’s the youngest quarterback to win the Super Bowl MVP.  Tom Brady is the only other QB to do it before turning 25.

4.  Mahomes’ comeback numbers are incredible.  He was 5-0 when TRAILING by double-digits this season, including 3-0 in the post-season.  No other starting quarterback has led three double-digit comebacks in a single postseason.

5.  And along those lines, the Chiefs are the first team to win the Super Bowl after trailing by 10 or more points in every game in a single postseason.

6.  According to advanced math, the 49ers had a 94.5% chance of winning when they led 20-10 with 10:37 left in the game.

7.  This is the Chiefs’ first Super Bowl win since the 1969 season.  That was a 50-year drought, but the New York Jets have a 51-year drought.  And 12 other teams have NEVER won a Super Bowl.

That’s what happens when you have teams like the Patriots, Steelers, 49ers, and Cowboys stealing the thunder.  Together, they have 22 of the 54 Super Bowl wins.

8.  The 49ers did snag at least one Super Bowl record.  Deebo Samuel had 53 rushing yards, which is the most ever by a wide receiver in Super Bowl history.

9.  The Chiefs TIED a Super Bowl record for most points in the fourth quarter, with 21.  And they tied the record for the most converted fourth downs, with two.  They share their fourth quarter record with the Cowboys, who made their 21-point comeback in Super Bowl 27.

10.  The annual EA Sports Super Bowl simulation on “Madden” predicted that the Chiefs would beat the 49ers 35-31.  They were right on the winner . . . and have now been right in 11 of the past 17 years.
