The Oscar nominees were announced yesterday, and ladies, I have bad news:  The Patriarchy has struck again.

“Barbie” was nominated for Best Picture, but director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie got SNUBBED.  However, Ryan Gosling DID get nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

Before you get too bent out of shape, we should note that America Ferrera got a nod for Best Supporting Actress.  So a woman WAS recognized for it.

(Still, people are freaking out, as you’d expect.  And Ryan issued a statement saying he was disappointed that Greta and Margot weren’t nominated.)

“Barbie” got EIGHT nominations in total, but “Oppenheimer” leads that pack with 13.

“Poor Things” followed with 11, and “Killers of the Flower Moon” came in third with 10.  Those include a Best Actress nod for Lily Gladstone, who is now the first Native American with an acting nomination.

Also, Martin Scorsese now holds the record for most Best Director nominations for a LIVING person.  Steven Spielberg is second with 9.  But they’re both behind the late William Wyler, who had 12 . . . for directing movies like “Wuthering Heights”, “Roman Holiday”, and “Ben Hur”.

In what’s widely been considered another snub, Leonardo DiCaprio did NOT get nominated for his starring turn in “Killers of the Flower Moon”.

“The Color Purple” only got ONE nomination:  Best Supporting Actress for Danielle Brooks.

Movies that got SHUT OUT completely include “Saltburn”, “Air”, “All of Us Strangers”, “Priscilla”, “Origin”, “Wonka”, “Asteroid City”, and “The Iron Claw”.

First-time nominees included Lily Gladstone, America Ferrera, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Jeffrey Wright, Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Sterling K. Brown, and . . . GODZILLA(!!!)

“Godzilla Minus One”, a Japanese Godzilla movie that became a huge international hit, is up for Best Visual Effects, making it the first nomination EVER for a Godzilla flick.  That ends a 70-year drought, people.

The Oscars will air Sunday, March 10th on ABC.  Jimmy Kimmel will sleepwalk his way through the ceremony as host.
